Obama on the Way to India

In India, stars shine and fade away; politicians stride the path to glory and fall down the precipices of heights and prestige. Nothing could be more sensational than the heralding arrival of the world’s greatest and most influential political leader. The name is Obama, Barack Obama. As his schedules were followed, both India and Pakistan looked forward to his visit to Delhi and Mumbai, as Obama lent a hand in solving the cold crisis between the two nations. But greater than that, is Obama’s determined effort to be a true American, in a global sense. It is not just diplomacy and world peace, it is business as well.

The Purpose of the Passage

To call it business is not enough. By fostering healthy rapport with India, the Goliath of outsourcing firms and business units, the humble Mr. President aims to strike a fair deal with the looming corporate giants in the country. The deal acts like a double-edged sword of opportunity and progress. On one hand are the lucrative investing scenarios for the firms as they place their bets on the revival of the American economy. On the other hand is the restoration of employment and livelihood to a thousand hearths and homes, back at America. Obama has particularly praised India, as a country that has moved over its trials and tribulations and is well on the way to economic growth.  India’s progress, as Obama put it, has further inspired other impoverished nations to wake up from their famished slumber into the dawn of prosperity.

Other Reasons

The economical tie ups once approved of; Obama went in for what he knows best through newsreels and broadcasts- being a celebrity of the masses. He then claimed that he has come to douse the fiery sparks between the neighbors. Suavely enough, he landed first on the doorsteps of the Hotel Taj at Mumbai, which had withstood the unfeeling onslaught of Islamic terrorists on the fateful night of 26th November, 2008. His larger-than-life essence seemed to assuage the broken hearts of the citizens. Add to that his friendly, casual and informal style of making public appearances and interactions.

However, the ever relentless press snapped at his heels, for some excuse or other. Here it was his tight-lipped reaction to the pervasive questioning of the basis of terrorism and fundamentalism. The regrettable part of his visit was that Obama’s conservatism found more aggressors than followers. His hesitation in holding Pakistan responsible for the training grounds of merciless terrorists and militants indicates his safe play in diplomacy.  Moreover, his discomfort at discussion of Jihad spilled out during one trip to the academics at St.Xavier College. After being asked about his views on Jihad, Obama could not say anything beyond the obvious. This has further made him the sitting duck for the media’s aggression, though reporters and correspondents are willing to accept his negotiations with the men inside The Parliament Building.

Obama’s visit might draw different reactions. Some believe that Obama’s silky style of making profitable deals and arrangements is of benefit to both Asia and USA. Others are obviously still hung over his hesitation to face ugly truths, despite the neglected fact that Obama did warn Pakistan of its laid-back insulation against militancy and terrorism. But, Obama is still a hero for his nation and the masses and this visit is only going to make him a greater icon.
